One month back, we had a query regarding a 5.25 ratti emerald stone. A gemstone of such high carat weight and natural origin is difficult to find. But our determined and customer-oriented team tries its best to make the gemstone available.
We made the stone available to our customers. We were curious to know why our customer only wanted a specific carat weight for her ring. Our research started, and it revealed:
In astrology, carat weight matters a lot. A carat weight or Ratti is the unit of measurement for a gemstone. 1 carat=0.2 gm or 200 milligrams. Carat weight is often confused with carat size, but both are different. Carat size is related to the diameter of the stone.
Units such as carat weight and Ratti are used interchangeably when you buy natural gemstone for astrological purposes. They mean the same thing that it tells you about the weight of the stone. Carats is the international standard unit for measuring gemstone weight, while Ratti is the traditional Indian unit used for the same purpose.
One Ratti is approximately 0.91 carats. It is commonly used in Vedic astrology to determine the ideal gemstone weight for astrological benefits.

A 7.25 Ratti is equal to 6. 5 to 6.72 carats, depending on the gemstone type. For instance 7.25 ratti panna stone is 6.53 carats. You can easily convert Ratti into carat weight or vice versa with the help of the Gemstone Ratti Calculator.
In Vedic astrology, carat weight or ratti plays an important role. Some astrologers believe that one should wear a gemstone 1/12th of the body weight. So if your body weight is 60Kg, then you should wear 60/12= a 5 ratti gemstone. However, such calculations are not suggested or highlighted in any of the Jyotish texts or writings.
However, it is believed that the carat weight is written in “sava”. For instance, “sava paanch ratti” or “5.25 carat weight”. Including carat weight in this unit also has a long story. In Hindu culture, Sava is believed to be an auspicious measurement. Thus, in Jyotish, this term is highly used. A minimum of 5.25 ratti is suitable, whereas a maximum of one can wear 7.25 ratti gemstone.
Choosing a stone weight in astrology is essential. This is because the gemstone’s weight impacts its overall effectiveness. However, it doesn't mean that if you wear a higher-carat weight stone, you will get more benefits. There is a precise carat weight range according to which one should wear the gemstone.

Yes, you can wear a gem that is higher than the weight suggested. However, various factors should be taken into consideration.
Since you are wearing an astrology ring, choosing a weight that fits your finger size is highly important. This is because astrological gemstones are energized and then worn.
Moreover, removing them frequently lowers the gemstone's effectiveness.
Thirdly, the zodiac stone you are wearing should be in direct contact with the skin.
