Cosceuz emeralds have no distinct hue or clarity. They appear green and may have secondary overtones like yellow or blue. 

Colombian emerald

Colombian emerald stone is expensive for those sourced from Muzo mines, from INR 4,000 to INR 1 lakhs per carat. The price difference is because gems obtained from these sources are highly saturated and feature a more intense green color. 

Three-phase inclusions are common in Colombian gems, which are removed by treatment. 

Trapiche emerald is the rarest gemstone found in Colombia. Inclusions seem valuable here as they give an unusual radial pattern inside the stone.

Zambia 

Gemstone deposits have become popular in recent years in this area. The most common mine operating here is from Kagem mines. Due to the distinct geological area, Zambian emeralds are said to be more durable than their Colombian counterparts, with hardness being 7.5 to 8.  

When evaluated based on color and clarity, the two important factors from the 4C’s feature are bluish-green hue and more clarity. Colombian Panna stones are more expensive than Zambian emeralds. Brazil 

Popular mines that operate in the Brazil region are Ceará, Bahia, Goiás, and Minas Gerais.

Emerald value is determined by its quality, and the ones obtained from Brazil show this exceptionally well. 

Some of these finest and most sought-after gems show high clarity and deep green color. The inner glow is the distinct property of Brazilian emeralds specific to the geological feature of this area. 

The price of Brazilian Panna stone starts at INR 1,000 and reaches up to INR 30,000 per carat or more. The stones obtained lack saturation. These gems are quite affordable pieces when compared to other counterparts.

Afghanistan 

Outstanding quality emeralds mined from Panjshir Valley, Afghanistan. They are similar in color and clarity to their Colombian counterparts. Russia 

Gems obtained from this region are lighter green with yellow and golden tint. They show great brilliance and high transparency. Vivid green color and larger stones are highly valued and account for hefty prices. 

Compared to Colombian mines, the production of these gems is quite less, contributing to only 2% worldwide. Depending upon the quality, the original Maragatham stone cost from Russia starts from INR 1500 and may reach upto INR 30,000 per carat and more.

Ethiopia 

The finest quality panna stone found in this region. The characteristic feature is a vivid green color with high clarity. Treatment is less likely to be done as they show good clarity. Major mines operating in Kenticha, Oromia region Dermi.

The 4C’s define the price of the stone. Evaluating the cost of Ethiopian emeralds based on that it ranges from INR 5,000 to INR 50,000 per carat and more. The price is high for the ones that show a grass-green color with exceptional clarity. Luster is high compared to Colombian emeralds, which makes these gems the best.

How to Tell if Emerald is Real? 

Here are some easy ways you can perform at home and find out whether your gemstone is real or fake:

  • Hold it under the light. If it reflects a rainbow of colors, it is a fake Panna. 

  • Compare the weight. Natural gemstones are higher in weight.
